How it works

  1. Send photos. The damaged boards and railing, and at least one from underneath showing the joists and the ledger, the board that attaches the deck to the house.
  2. Get a fixed written price the same business day. The scope is written out and the licensed, insured local company doing the work is named on the quote.
  3. Pick an appointment window. The crew photographs the work before and after.
  4. Approve the finished job, then pay the balance. If something unexpected turns up mid-job, work stops and you get the change in writing first.

Safety first: the frame and the ledger

New boards on a rotting frame is money spent twice, so every deck quote starts with the structure. We look at the joists, the posts, and above all the ledger, because many serious deck failures start where the deck attaches to the house. If the frame is sound, replacing boards and railings is excellent value. If it is not, we price the structural repair first and tell you plainly when a deck is past repairing.

What we do not do

We repair existing wood and composite decks. New deck construction and full replacements need design and permits and are outside what we price from photos. In most Metro Vancouver municipalities, structural repairs to a ledger, posts or beams need a building permit, and we say so in the quote. Balconies and roof decks with a vinyl or liquid membrane are part of the building envelope: that is membrane work, and in a strata it is reported to the strata, not repaired by the owner.

Where we work

We take jobs across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley: Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster, Surrey, Delta and White Rock; North Vancouver and West Vancouver; Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody; and Langley, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. Each page covers the local housing and which business licence a contractor needs there. Not sure you are covered? Check your postal code.

Common questions

Can you replace just a few boards?

Yes, as long as the joists underneath are sound. New boards look different until they weather, so we put them where they show least when we can.

How do I know if my deck is safe?

Warning signs are soft or spongy boards, a railing that moves when pushed, rust streaks or gaps where the deck meets the house, and posts that are soft at the base. Send photos and we will tell you what we see.

Do you stain the deck after repairs?

We can, as part of the same fixed price. Staining needs a stretch of dry weather, so on the coast it is usually scheduled between May and September, and new pressure-treated boards need to dry before they take stain.

Is there a minimum job?

Yes, $500.
