What fence repair costs
| Job | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Replace 1–3 pickets | $150–$400 |
| Reset a leaning post New concrete footing | $200–$500 |
| Replace a fence section 8-foot panel | $250–$600 |
| Gate repair or rehang | $150–$450 |
| Storm damage, several sections | $800–$2,500 |
| Fence repair package Our typical fixed price | $800–$1,800 |
Most of the cost is labor and digging, which is why fixing several posts or sections in one visit is far cheaper than a call-out each time something leans. See the fence repair cost guide.
How it works
- Send photos. The whole run, close-ups of the damage, and the base of the worst post. Tell us roughly how long the fence is and what it is made of.
- Get a fixed written price the same business day. The scope is written out and the licensed, insured local company doing the work is named on the quote.
- Pick an appointment window. The crew photographs the work before and after.
- Approve the finished job, then pay the balance. If something unexpected turns up mid-job, work stops and you get the change in writing first.
Posts are the whole story
A leaning fence is almost always a post problem: rot at the ground line or a footing that was too shallow. Replacing panels on failing posts does not last, so we check the posts first and price the repair that will hold. Guides by problem: fence post repair, fence gate repair, chain link fence repair and vinyl fence repair.
Before we dig
Any post work starts with an 811 utility locate, which is free and required before digging in most states, so allow a few days between the quote and the start. If the fence sits on a property line, agree on the repair with your neighbor first. We repair existing fences; long runs of new fence are a fencing contractor's job and we will tell you when replacement is the better value.
Where we work
We take jobs in Louisville and Lexington in Kentucky, Cincinnati and Columbus in Ohio, Indianapolis, and Knoxville. Each page covers the local housing and what a contractor there needs to be licensed for. Not sure you are covered? Check your ZIP code.
Common questions
Can a leaning fence be fixed without replacing it?
Usually. Posts can be reset in new concrete or braced, and only the posts that have rotted through need replacing.
Will the new boards match?
New wood is paler and weathers to match over a season or two. Staining the whole run after the repair evens it out; see fence staining cost.
Do you repair storm damage?
Yes. Photograph the damage before anything is moved if you plan to claim on insurance, then send us the same photos.
Is there a minimum job?
Yes, $450.
